Does CoolSculpting Work On Belly Fat?

When you gain weight, one of the first areas where you can see a noticeable increase in fat bulge is the stomach or belly. That’s because the midsection area is prone to accumulating more stubborn fat cells and they don’t break down as easily as other adipocytes in the body. But while it’s a struggle to achieve a flat stomach, there are new technologies and treatments that can help, such as CoolSculpting.

So how does CoolSculpting work for belly fat reduction? The procedure uses a special CoolSculpting applicator that freezes the excess fat cells in the stomach. The treated fat cells will eventually get metabolized and dispelled from the body for good, resulting in a visible fat reduction and improvement in your stomach contour.

Why You Have Stubborn Belly Fat and How CoolSculpting Can Help

Having a flat stomach isn’t always easy to achieve with a regular diet and exercise. Although you may have dropped a few pounds, you may still notice a bit of stubborn belly fat left behind. There are several reasons why stomach fat is so hard to lose:

  • Genetics - Your genes play a large role in determining where you’ll store adipose cells, especially visceral fat, in the body. Visceral fat is a type of belly fat located deep in your abdominal cavity and surrounds your internal organs. Some people are more prone to storing stubborn fat in the stomach due to their genetics.
  • Hormone imbalance - Changing hormone levels, especially in women, may cause a shift in excess fat storage and lead to a more visible fat bulge in the belly.
  • Stress - Being put under a huge amount of stress can lead to an increase in cortisol which may result in abdominal fat.
  • Lifestyle - If you tend to consume more calories than you burn, it’s very easy to gain more visceral and subcutaneous fat, which can result in a prominent stomach fat bulge.
  • Presence of alpha receptors in the stomach - Another reason why belly fat is difficult to lose is that they aren’t as responsive to natural lipolysis. The stomach and lower abdomen areas have more alpha receptors than beta receptors which means they’re slower to undergo fat loss than any other part of the body. Alpha receptors typically store the fat for later use, while beta receptors immediately break down and release fat.

Fortunately, it’s become easier and more convenient to lose stubborn body fat with the help of CoolSculpting. If you’re looking for non-surgical belly fat solutions, this revolutionary treatment can help target your excess fat cells without incisions and downtime. In fact, CoolSculpting is an FDA-approved body contouring treatment that can get rid of your unwanted fat in the following areas:

  • Stomach or abdomen
  • Upper arms
  • Inner and outer thighs
  • Flanks or love handles
  • Bra fat
  • Buttock rolls
  • Back fat
  • Submental area or double chin

Is CoolSculpting Effective for the Stomach: The Science Behind This Fat Removal Treatment

CoolSculpting uses the principle of cryolipolysis or fat freezing to eliminate stubborn fat cells in the lower abdomen and belly. It’s said that fat cells are more vulnerable to cold temperatures than other cells in the body. When they’re exposed to lower temperatures, they’ll freeze and begin an inflammatory process that will lead to the death of the adipose cells. The dead fat cells will then be expelled from the body through the lymphatic system.

This cosmetic procedure isn’t only effective for providing a visible reduction in belly fat bulge but also helps sculpt your lower abdomen area. It works great as an alternative to traditional liposuction if you want to reduce fat without undergoing the knife. It’s also possible to get CoolSculpting stomach treatment after plastic surgery to address areas with untreated pockets of fat and enhance its results.

Which CoolSculpting Applicator Is Used For The Stomach?

Removing belly fat with CoolSculpting requires the use of specially-designed applicators developed by ZELTIQ. These applicators target the pinchable subcutaneous fat lying underneath the skin and deliver controlled cooling to freeze them. Providers can use several applicators for treating the stomach area:

1) CoolSculpting Elite

This is a new and improved version of the original CoolSculpting machine. Unlike its predecessor, the CoolSculpting Elite has two applicators which means it can target multiple areas in a single session. It significantly cuts back the procedure time in half and offers more efficiency for treating stubborn belly fat.

It also has an upgraded design and features more suction power so it can draw more fatty tissue into the cooling cup. It can also cover more skin surfaces than the original CoolSculpting and provides more targeted cooling for the precise treatment of belly fat. This machine can also be used on other areas of the body such as the thighs, flanks, bra fat, buttocks, and upper arm.

2) CoolCore Advantage

This CoolSculpting applicator features a cup design that allows for better suctioning of bulging areas in the lower and upper abdomen. It allows for a more comfortable and faster treatment than the original CoolSculpting machine. In addition to eliminating belly fat, this applicator can also help contour and tone your abdominal region.

3) CoolAdvantage Plus

Also known as the ‘de-bulking applicator’, this CoolSculpting machine features an upgraded design for addressing problematic stomach areas with increased precision. It has a larger coverage area compared to the CoolCore Advantage and has a unique cup shape that adjusts to the visible bulge in the lower and upper abdomen areas to better freeze and reduce excess fat deposits.

What to Expect Before and During A Belly CoolSculpting Procedure

Before your CoolSculpting belly fat removal, it’s important to have a consultation with your chosen provider. Make sure that you’re working with a certified CoolSculpting provider who can administer the cosmetic procedure safely and expertly. After consultation, you’ll receive a customized treatment plan that details how many sessions you’ll need to have to get optimal results. On average, people get at least 2 treatments for belly CoolSculpting.

There’s no extensive preparation needed before your CoolSculpting session. However, you may be advised to lose some weight before the treatment. You can see better CoolSculpting results if you’re at least within 5 pounds of your target weight. You’ll also need to avoid certain medications and supplements which may cause bruising and interfere with your treatment

CoolSculpting procedures are typically done in an outpatient setting and require no anesthesia. Here’s an overview of what happens during a fat reduction treatment:

  • You’ll be asked to lie down comfortably and the provider will mark the areas that will be treated with the CoolSculpting applicator.
  • A gel pad will be placed over the skin in the treatment areas to provide protection before placing the applicators.
  • During the procedure, you’ll feel a slight pinching or tugging sensation as the suction draws the excess fat into the cooling cup. You’ll also feel intense cold as the CoolSculpting machine lowers your fat tissue up to a temperature of -10 degrees Celsius.
  • The fat-freezing procedure can take anywhere from 35 to 60 minutes depending on the size and number of areas being treated.
  • You can go back to your normal activities immediately after a CoolSculpting session.

Side Effects of CoolSculpting Treatment for Belly Fat

Since it’s not surgical, belly CoolSculpting procedures have fewer risks and complications than liposuction. But do note that there are still several side effects that you may experience after the treatment. Here are some of the possible aftereffects of CoolSculpting on the stomach and lower abdomen:

  • Pain or aching at the treatment area - This happens as a side effect from the suctioning mechanism of the applicator and is a common response to cold temperatures after the procedure.
  • Redness and bruising - Some patients may also notice some red dots appearing on the skin after CoolSculpting. These small dots are known as petechiae and usually occur due to broken blood vessels and bruising from the applicator’s suction. This side effect typically resolves within a few weeks and can be managed with topical ointments such as Arnica.
  • Swelling - It’s also common for a patient to have minor swelling in the treated area after CoolSculpting. Some doctors say that the inflammation process helps with fat cell elimination and is usually a good indicator that the treatment is working. It can last for several days before subsiding on its own.
  • Numbness - You may also experience temporary numbness as a result of freezing from CoolSculpting. You’ll typically regain normal sensation for a few weeks after the treatment.
  • Paradoxical adipose hyperplasia (PAH) - This is a possible but uncommon side effect of CoolSculpting that can happen when the treated fat cells increase and thicken rather than become broken down. When this happens, a patient can get laser treatment or an invasive liposuction procedure to remove the overgrowth of fatty tissue.

When Can You See Results of Belly CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting isn’t an immediate fix for belly fat removal. You need patience and commitment to undergo multiple treatments to achieve your desired outcomes. Initial results may be visible in as little as 3 weeks but because the fat elimination process takes time, you’ll have to wait until 2  to 3 months to see noticeable stomach fat reduction and body contouring.

Your body will continue to process the frozen fat cells for up to 6 months after treatment so expect that you can see more dramatic results within that timeframe. There are also several aftercare practices that can help with fat elimination and improve your results:

  • Follow a healthier lifestyle and eat a more balanced diet to avoid new weight gain.
  • Drink plenty of water after the treatment to support your lymphatic function and help dispel your treated fat cells faster.
  • Massage the treated area regularly for 5 minutes to assist in the breakdown of fat. This can also help improve your circulation and lymphatic drainage to provide better results.
  • Avoid non-steroidal inflammatory medications for at least 4 to 6 weeks after CoolSculpting. These drugs may interfere with the inflammatory process that’s necessary for processing and eliminating the treated fat cells.
  • Schedule follow-up treatments with your CoolSculpting provider so they can monitor your progress and suggest if you need additional procedures.

Are CoolSculpting Results for Belly Fat Removal Permanent?

As long as you don’t gain new weight, the results of belly CoolSculpting treatment are permanent. Once the frozen fat cells are removed from the body, they won’t come back and the treated areas will look more contoured and slimmer. However, if you fail to watch your weight, the remaining fat cells in the area may expand and lead to new visible bulges.

Can Belly CoolSculpting Help You Lose Weight?

CoolSculpting is a fat removal procedure that can help contour and shape your body. It shouldn’t be treated as a weight loss solution as it won’t help you drop significant amounts of pounds and cause changes in the scale.

However, the amount of fat reduction can translate to noticeable improvements in your clothing size. Some people have noticed themselves fitting better in their jeans or clothes after contouring their bodies and removing excess fat cells with CoolSculpting.

This treatment is also a great investment for your overall physical well-being. The fat-reducing and body-contouring effects of CoolSculpting may motivate you to make improvements in your lifestyle and diet and help you get a start on your weight loss journey.

What Our Clients Say About Us

  • "The treatment itself was not uncomfortable. Afterwords, I felt great. I didn't really notice anything for about 30 days. After day 30 until about a month later, I started noticing that my favorite jeans were not as tight anymore. I wasn't having to suck in to get them buttoned. And by that two month period after my CoolSculpting

  • "It's subtle at first, and then a month later you look and go, "Wow - It really did something!" It really moved the bar for me, and I'm feeling better about myself already. It feels so good to put on anything and know I look as good as I've ever looked. And I didn't say that or feel that when I was in my 20's, 30's, and 40's."
